8 million lives changed forever

On December 16, 2021, Super Typhoon Odette hit the Philippines causing chaos and devastation.

New research shows that the likelihood of a disaster like Super Typhoon Odette has roughly doubled due to climate change, a global crisis driven largely by oil and gas companies like Shell. Shell is among the top 10 polluters of all fossil fuel companies, and one of the richest oil and gas companies in the world.

Shell has known about the link between fossil fuels and dangerous climate change since at least 1965. They had the chance to change course. Instead, Shell misled the public and blocked our shift to clean energy. All to protect their profits.

High tides and super Typhoon Odette are the doing of big oil companies who destroy our environment”

*Kontrabida is a Tagalog term for the villain in a story

Shell must be held accountable

Channelling their fear into hope and action, these ordinary people in the Philippines are now doing an extraordinary thing – suing Shell.

Filipinos have suffered more than enough, paying the highest price for someone else’s profits. The Philippines has emitted only 0.21% of all CO2 emissions since records began. Meanwhile, Shell has made hundreds of billions in profits while spreading misinformation about climate change and doubling down on fossil fuels.

Now, Filipinos are demanding justice for the harm they’ve endured.
